WHO IS TREVOR ‘TNT’ SMANDYCH?
Trevor began his martial arts journey in karate at the age of 11. When he was 13, he moved into the muay thai/kickboxing program and never looked back. Known for his forward pressure and his devastating left body hook and low kicks, Trevor had an incredibly successful fight career under coach Mike Miles, accumulating over 60 fights with a professional record of 26W-5L-2D with 13KOs.
He had notable fights against the likes of Remy Bonnel (France), Narupol Fairtex (Thailand), Kurt Finlayson (Australia), Sak Nayagam (England), Mark Brackenburry (Canada), Shane Campbell (Canada), Murthrel Groenhart (Netherlands), Shaun Yacoubian (USA), and Jeff Perry (USA) and amassed 8 professional championship titles along the way.
In 2008, Trevor had the opportunity to compete on the Contender Asia – a reality series following the 16 top middleweight fighters in the world including John Wayne Parr, Narupol Fairtex, and Yodsanklai Fairtex.
Trevor ran the Ranchlands location of Mike Miles Kickboxing and Muay Thai from January 1999 to December 2009. In 2010 he and his brother Nate branched out and started Team Smandych. With keen eyes for proper technique, enthusiasm for helping students achieve their goals combined with the love of Muay Thai, they have successfully created a welcoming, yet disciplined, teaching environment for beginners and advanced athletes alike.
Trevor’s resume also includes being the mastermind behind the successful and popular fight promotion Journey Fight Series from 2010 – 2017. Journey hosted many amateur and professional bouts and helped to solidify the Muay Thai scene in Canada.
Trevor is a loving husband to Lisa and father of 3 children. When he is not busy at the gym, you will find him at one of his children’s hockey or baseball games.
